Weekly update: 3rd March

This weeks feedback from within...

In addition to finished 1.7 features, fixes and improvements we are looking at improving a number of areas:

Player damage, specifically nades.
Player physics.
Karma physics.
Visual and sound feedback on weapon firing.
Interface improvements.
fun stuff (wait and see)
Admin controls.
Getting base work in for future team and external cheat protection.

Going on expectations of the time we have, the stuff we'd most like to get done, the patch should be out by the end of March, of course allowing for anything that crops up in the meantime.

2.0 work is still ongoing alongside the 1.7 patch timeline and there is a little behind the scenes expansion going on as 2.x content creators are coming onboard. We hope that 1.7 satisfies the playerbase so that we can really concentrate on making Crossfire 2.0 the most polished, smooth and sexy version yet.

Apologies for the lateness of this week's update, between being busy with work and family it can be hard to find the time sometimes.

Last week I asked if people wanted another patch between now and 2.0 and the answer was a resounding "yes", it seems the corner bug fix is needed.  As a result we will be putting out the 1.7 patch in the next few weeks.

In the world of PR, the 1.6 full installer is included on the PowerPlay magazine DVD in germany, which should see a nice collection of new players trying out the game as well as helping to raise our profile.  The magazine is released today, so if you fancy a good read and have access to it, why not pick up a copy?

This week we have seen UbH, the animator mentioned last week come onboard and already working not only on animations, rigs and skeletons, but has also provided us with some pretty crisp meshes for our maps.

We have all been out playing the game on the publics alot this week, in fact I don't mind admitting that I'm slightly addicted and spent more time playing TOC this week than working on it.

The thorny subject of cheat protection is getting much attention, we are organising a partnership with the ACP people to get not only internal security built into the game, but also a longer term strategy of a 3rd party security tool that can be updated outside of the TOC patch cycle.  I would like to think that within the next couple of months we will see the majority of publicly known cheats locked out.  On that subject, a small note to people who are lame enough to cheat, with 1.7 if you are caught you WILL be added to our global ban list, so perhaps it's time to start learning to play fair.

Hopefully we'll have a newspost soon, with some new media for you, it's been awhile since we've shown anything we are working on.

Well, another week goes by and it's time for this week's update..

The first big news of the week is that we have found ourselves an animator, we will introduce him officially shortly, hopefully with a newspost showing off some of his work.  What this means for the game is that we should be able to get some nice animation and improved playermodel rigs into beta 2.0 as planned.

Work wise this week a couple more playermodels have gone ingame, taking the current count to 8 SF models, 4 terr models and 1 hostage.  Both teams now have a female model.  We hope that for beta 2.0 we could be looking at around 8-10 distinct characters per team with 2 or 3 different hostages.

Taunt anims have been added into the game, including 'Team Action' motions (eg: halt, left, right).

Further work has been ongoing with finetuning the weapons, no dramatic changes but enough to give greater distinction and worth to certain guns we feel aren't fitting too well right now.

Rayden has once again put on his coding hat and made some improvements to the server browser and kill descriptions.

With the corner bug fixed we are currently considering whether to bring out a small hotfix patch incuding just a few improvements before beta 2.0, we would like your feedback on this...we don't want to overload with patches for new players, but I know alot of people want the corner bug fixed asap.

Thats it for this week, thanks for reading.
