The Mapping Never Stops!
Written by Gek
Thursday, 16 August 2007

A few of the excellent mappers we have in the team thought it was a good moment to pass on a bit of news from their part of the development.  The main point is that work never stops for our mappers, as the older maps get improvements even as new maps are being created.  A great example of this would be Bushido, the Japanese themed map by Zer0.BE.  Zer0.BE has never really stopped developing Bushido, on both asthetic and gameplay fronts.  He is currently working on a major overhaul that will see the light of day when patch 2.0 is released (no release date yet though I'm afraid!).  If you were of a romantic turn of mind, it could be said that Zer0.BE's splendidly realised map is almost a love letter to the fine nation of Japan.

Some of the changes he is working on include major improvements to the graphics, especially improving the lighting to make it as realistic as possible, to further enhance what is already a beautiful map.  All of the buildings will be redone in 3DS Max.  As well as improving the look of the map, performance will be improved with these changes.  Some smaller tweaks to remove reported annoyances will also be made.

Here are some taster pics:

1.8 Status Update
Written by Gek
Wednesday, 08 August 2007

As the upcoming 1.8 patch is getting closer to release, we thought it was time for a small news update.

The vast majority of the hard work for the patch has been done, now we are in the final stages of testing and tidying before we move to the Community Stress Test phase.  This will involve exposing the patch to a wide array of players that have signed up from many countries, so we can be sure the patch performs as it should in a typical online gaming environment.  If this test proves successfull, we will make the patch generally available shortly afterwards.   We believe we have fixed the main problem with 1.7, the unusual FPS drops that some people had problems with.

The TO:C White List is also being finished off and we hope to be able to present that soon, along with more news on 1.8.   In the meantime, thanks for the support (you nice folks know who you are) and enjoy the summer as best you can!

Hello ladies and gentlemen!  All of  the European component of our community will well appreciate that summer hasn't really got going yet, but while we are mainly seeking shelter from the rain, it would be great if all members of our community and their friends could help to show their appreciation for the efforts of the TO:C team by donating a few minutes of their time to helping us win a Mod competition.  The competition in question is being run by GameFlood.  If you want to show your appreciation for a superb game that is designed and built to professional standards (yet costs nothing) we would be very grateful if you could spend a couple of minutes registering and voting for the game that we build for you.

You can do that here:

GameFlood

You can also find the Toplist here:

GameFlood Toplist

In other news, we appreciate the patience of the community regarding the upcoming Community Stress Test which we will use to validate the 1.8 patch.  Do not worry, as soon as we are ready to go, all of you out there will be informed in good time.

Finally, we would be very interested to hear from any UScript coders out there that would like to contribute to what has to be one of the most professional and playable modifications available.  Please submit your applications to:

petterf a team.to-crossfire.net

Expect more in depth news as soon as we can bring it to you.  Thanks once again for the support from our marvellous community!
