Well community, we have some good news about the upcoming TO:Crossfire patch which sports the number 1.8!
On Thursday the official stress tests started and our new stress test
team is now working to find bugs and check whether the known issues are
resolved. This special team is formed from community members, which are
people that are active in the forums as well as in the game.
The following people are part of the stress team:
Flugel, Pim, Godlike, Kevin D, CoilNovaCarrion, Point, fjre, Toffifee,
AngryPenguin, feZy, muerte, s0phisticated/Firebolt.de, Ghost, madison,
imp, Laky][, roccy_, Lolli.at, AzurAA and hind2
As stated above, the first test was scheduled for yesterday evening. We
have gained some good feedback from the testers, which will be used to
improve the 1.8 release.
Most important points:
- Thumbs up for removing the hostage bug. Now you can smoothly ask the hostage to "help" you.
- The fps drops which the 1.7 release suffered from seem to be gone.
Although there are still points where we need to increase the average
FPS, it is important to remember that a handful of our maps have higher
performance requirements than the majority due to them being technical
showcases that push the UT2K4 engine to it's limit. It is also
important not to forget that you need a reasonable amount of CPU and
GPU power to enjoy any UT2004 based game in a decent way.
More testing by the stress team will give us more information on this issue.
There will be more stress tests like this one in the upcoming week(s).
The TO:C team will see what we can achieve for the public release and
what things must wait until the next version. We are aware that the
previously mentioned problems make playing less fun, that is why we
want to release a quick patch to solve those issues.

A few of the excellent mappers we have in the team thought it was a good moment to pass on a bit of news from their part of the development. The main point is that work never stops for our mappers, as the older maps get improvements even as new maps are being created. A great example of this would be Bushido, the Japanese themed map by Zer0.BE. Zer0.BE has never really stopped developing Bushido, on both asthetic and gameplay fronts. He is currently working on a major overhaul that will see the light of day when patch 2.0 is released (no release date yet though I'm afraid!). If you were of a romantic turn of mind, it could be said that Zer0.BE's splendidly realised map is almost a love letter to the fine nation of Japan.
Some of the changes he is working on include major improvements to the graphics, especially improving the lighting to make it as realistic as possible, to further enhance what is already a beautiful map. All of the buildings will be redone in 3DS Max. As well as improving the look of the map, performance will be improved with these changes. Some smaller tweaks to remove reported annoyances will also be made.
Here are some taster pics:

As the upcoming 1.8 patch is getting closer to release, we thought it was time for a small news update.
The vast majority of the hard work for the patch has been done, now we are in the final stages of testing and tidying before we move to the Community Stress Test phase. This will involve exposing the patch to a wide array of players that have signed up from many countries, so we can be sure the patch performs as it should in a typical online gaming environment. If this test proves successfull, we will make the patch generally available shortly afterwards. We believe we have fixed the main problem with 1.7, the unusual FPS drops that some people had problems with.
The TO:C White List is also being finished off and we hope to be able to present that soon, along with more news on 1.8. In the meantime, thanks for the support (you nice folks know who you are) and enjoy the summer as best you can!
